Buenos Dias, Good Morning, and happy Friday! Sorry to have brought this installment of Thirsty Thursdays a day late. My computer has had a mind of it's own the last few days so I couldn't post anything. Torture for bloggers by the way. My fingers are crossed it won't happen again. Wish me luck!
Anyway, have you ever wondered what life would be like without coffee? It's almost impossible for me to imagine my life without it.
Have you had a Michelada yet? The first time I had one of these was with an uncle of mine nearly 18 years ago. We were all outside, the men were loungin' by the bbq, cooking the meat. My uncle noticed me watching him prepare his drink right inside his can of beer. He pops the can open, drinks a little, pours in some clamato juice, takes a lemon wedge and squeezes some inside, pours salt on top, and hands it to me. "Pruebalo" he says (taste it).
You know what a Mom really wants for Mother's Day? Here's a hint: It has nothing to do with jewelry or money. If you plan out her day with all the non-materialistic things that make her happy, it can be one of the most memorable Mother's Days for her. One of those gifts I can assure you is a homemade breakfast to start the day right.
There are certain people in my family who instantly come to mind when I drink a licuado such as this one. Isn't that funny how one drink can trigger an image or memory that dates back to when you were in elementary school? I love that about food.
Have you ever wondered why we celebrate Cinco de Mayo? I have. For years I always wondered why we celebrate this Holiday here in the States when Mexico apparently (I recently discovered) doesn't celebrate it with the same excitement as their Independence day (which is on September 16th by the way). Well, I've summarized the main parts of the story here for anyone else interested.
Cheers to a new series I'm starting here on Spanglish Spoon called Thirsty Thursdays! Have you heard of this phrase before? Most of you probably have, but in case you haven't, its origins lie in the halls of college dorms and bars. You're probably thinking I'll be posting nothing but adult drinks now, but that's not entirely what THIS Thirsty Thursdays series is about.
