Hi there!  Hola!  My name is Stephanie Chavez and I am so glad you are here.  This blog is my home away from home, so welcome!  Relax, kick back, put your feet up and hang out a while. I'll let you in on a few secrets about me.  I'm a Californian Bay Area Native, born with Mexican Blood.  I'm married with two children and hold a Bachelors Degree in Child  & Adolescent Development.

Back in 2010 I started a food blog called The Pantry Dish and became hooked on blogging.  The problem was I couldn't keep up with it after I became pregnant with my second child.  Baby was born, I had 3 other children enrolled in my Family Daycare through an Early Head Start Family Daycare Program (total of 5 children) in my small home plus an assistant.  Naturally this made for one overworked household.  During my time off from blogging I was able to do a little bit of soul searching and realized there was something missing from The Pantry Dish.  ME.

I know that sounds a little funny considering I was the writer of that blog and everything in it came from my ideas, but when the time came to jump back on the blogging wagon, I looked back at my old posts and thought about where I wanted The Pantry Dish to go.  What was its purpose?  Did it do justice in representing everything about ME?  Then it hit me.  The name of my blog didn't represent me.  It wouldn't support my future aspirations to reconnect with my heritage that I had been longing for.  My desire and need to immerse myself in my heritage was becoming clearer and clearer each day, and for that reason, I started Spanglish Spoon.  You can read more about this in my first post on my Spanglish Roots blog here.

Why the name Spanglish Spoon?  Well, let me break it down for you.

1.  I am not a proficient Spanish speaker.  I can't hold an adult level conversation in
Spanish for very long.  Shameful, I know.  When I speak Spanish, I literally have to use
both English and Spanish words because I always run into the problem of not knowing
how to say something in Spanish.  This happens more often than not.
     Hence the name Spanglish.

2.  Originally I was bouncing around some other ideas to go with Spanglish but I couldn't
make up my mind so I recruited some help from my closest cousins.  One of them came
up with "Spoon" and I loved it.  We all did.  It fit perfectly because I love food.  Food is
my addiction.  I love the smell of food whether it be Mexican, Chinese, Vietnamese,
Indian, I'm game.  When I cook...9 times out of 10 I'm using a wooden spoon.
Wooden spoons are my go-to utensils.  The Spoon represents my love for cooking and
     eating.

And there you have it, me and my blog in a nutshell.  I hope you come back again soon and continue to read the latest happenings on my cyber-homefront.  Drop me a line sometime, anytime.  I would love to hear from my readers.

Steph
